Are Step Counts or Total Time Exercising better ways of measuring

physical activity.

Investigators followed more than 14,000 volunteers for the women's health study to find out.

The women were at least 62 years old and did not have cardiovascular conditions or cancer when the study began.

They had completed annual questionnaire since the 1990s and agreed to wear an accelerometer

to measure their physical activity.

The accelerometers measured both step counts and time spent in moderate to vigorous exercise.
