I'm your host, retired NYPD Sergeant Bill Cannon, a 27-year veteran of the NYPD.

You know, folks, as we look more and more into this New Orleans case, it really is disturbing.

And what you see up on the screen, security failures on Bourbon Street.

And the question is, could this have been prevented with proper security measures?

And the answer is, yes, it could have been.

The security, from a perspective of the planning,

and just the error of allowing vehicles to be able to drive in,

not blocked by Ballards or Jersey barriers or sand trucks.

That was a huge, huge mistake.

And it's not like the city of New Orleans didn't know about this.

Was this the first time New Year's Eve was being held on Bourbon Street?

I think not. Every year they have Montegro. There's some real security problems at this location. And, you know,

the expression you can't put the genie back in the bottle is so true. But in this case, the genie is 14 dead people from

New Orleans and across this country that went to Bourbon Street that night, that early

morning hours, to enjoy themselves. And we, the police of New Orleans, the people responsible for the security, the security

executives, the mayor, the governor, they failed.

There was a failure in protecting the public.

And that seems to be the rule these days rather than the exception.

Because using a vehicle as a deadly weapon also is not something that's new.

It's been happening.
