Sherlock Holmes, a study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle, part 2, chapters 4 and five.

In the previous chapters, we continued to follow the lives of John Ferrier and his adopted daughter Lucy, as they continued to make their lives after being rescued by a

traveling group of Mormons. After many years John Ferrier made a name and a fortune for himself,

whilst Lucy grows to become a young woman and falls in love with a traveling prospector.

Trouble finds John, however, after the leader of the town

makes known his disapproval of John's unwillingness to follow the Mormon tradition.

He's given an ultimatum.

Either his daughter marries a Mormon,

or they are both run out of town.

John isn't prepared to put this upon his daughter,

and so hatches a plan to have her secretly run away

with her sweet heart.
