This is naked on Kashmir. She took stamps from the drawer in the kitchen.

Her father saw but didn't say. They drove and she watched out

the window, fingering them carefully in her pocket. Together they climbed the grassy hill,

up to the acorn tree,

stopping at a rock perfectly carved

with a woman's name.

For a long time and a careful time, she looked and thought, but never cried.

Papa, she finally said, how many stamps does it take to reach heaven?

Growing up, I remember a close friend losing a parent, very young,

and I'll never forget being with them as they struggled to come to grips with something

that seemed so unfair.

This week we're focusing on the theme of loss.

It's a tough one, but one many of us are familiar with.

And in its own way, loss can be a beautiful thing.

We realize that things, moments, and people in our lives are so precious because of that inevitable reminder of losing them.

There's a beautiful quote by Rumi that goes, don't grieve.

For anything you lose comes round in another form.
