You see a problem and you don't know how to get started. So let's say we were working on a problem together,

like my coffee machine is not giving me coffee and we don't know how to get started.

We wouldn't feel low confidence. We would shake the machine. We'd find a YouTube video.

We'd ask each other questions. We'd see if, you know, it was plugged into the wall,

we'd check if the circuit breaker had been flipped. Like we would just, we would be immediately

in problem solving, there be no bad ideas. We might even have fun doing it together because

it would be really intense and engaging and then we'd be very excited. We might high five when

But when you see a problem, let's say, presented to you in math class and you don't know what to do,

you don't have any of those reactions. Instead, your mind goes blank. You feel dumb. You think someone else knows how to solve it. You want to disappear. You want to become as small as possible

because you don't know the right way. And there's no room to offer a getting started, a way to participate.
