Summary

Overparenting is a phenomenon that happens for many parents who have the best of intentions. We want the best for our children and as a result, we want to do everything and be everything for them. This happens because we are fearful of not doing enough. We fear underparenting. This often spills over into discipline. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves to dole out rewards and consequences for all the minor and major behavior infractions as children grow. But in today’s episode, I am explaining why we don’t need to fear underparenting. And in fact, often less is more. The post SFP 152: The Fear of Underparenting appeared first on Simple Families.

and that is the fear of under parenting or the fear of not doing enough and that fear really

0:51.2

drives us to do more.

0:53.0

And not only do we end up overwhelmed,

0:55.0

but it doesn't actually serve our kids well at all.

So I believe this is a multifaceted issue

that we can approach from many different directions and today I just

1:05.3

want to tackle one component of it. That is the fear of under parenting as it pertains to

1:11.2

disciplining our kids. I hear from parents all the time that they

1:15.8

don't want to let their kids get away with things. They want to make sure that

1:20.0

they're disciplining them. And when I hear that that often tells me that they want to make sure that they're giving the

1:26.6

appropriate amount of consequences to their children, when their children

1:30.8

quote-unquote misbehave.
