0:18.4	wrong and would never do. Murder, Grand Theft, Auto, these are things I assume most of us can agree on. But what about
0:26.1	texting while driving? Ten years ago, I probably would have put it in the same category.
0:30.6	Definitely not. Ten years ago, the idea of giving my adolescent advice where they could talk to and
0:36.7	exchange photos with strangers, definitely not.
0:40.0	Yet, I pick up my phone while driving far more than I care to admit.
0:44.3	People expect me to respond and often I need the text coming in so I know where to go and what to do, right?
0:50.0	And my kids have phones and similar to smoking in the 70s, I assume this is something
0:54.8	we're all going to regret if we don't already.
0:57.5	Psychologists say there are about 10% of people who are going to do things that are fundamentally
1:01.8	wrong no matter what.
1:03.4	There are about 80% of us that think we won't do it, except when the consequences are removed
1:09.5	almost entirely.
1:10.9	In other words, if everyone is doing it and nothing markedly bad is happening to them, then
1:16.2	80% of people will do something they believed was fundamentally wrong.
1:21.7	That only leaves about 10%, who are not going to do it no
1:25.0	matter how many people are doing it or how low the stakes are. When it comes to
1:29.2	sex, marriage, beauty, pornography, how much are our fundamental values influenced by the masses?
1:35.7	Do we have a similar attitude about these things that I have about texting while driving?
1:40.4	Sometimes it's necessary.
