So I have to admit I am not the world's greatest still water angler. I've done a fair amount of it, made

lots of mistakes, and so I'll share with you what I've learned in still water fly fishing.

Given the option... what I've learned in still water fly fishing.

Given the option for trout, I'd prefer to fish moving water,

but trout lakes do have a special appeal

and still water fishing when it's right when conditions are right and the

fisher, fisher in the shallows or rising can be spectacular and lots of fun.

Still water fishing if it's a bright sunny day and the fish are deep,

dredging with a sinking line is I guess kind of an acquired taste. Still water fishing

for bass and panfish, however, is a spectacularly fun way to fish.

Most of us have some sort of pond close at hand. I'd be hard-pressed to close my eyes and point my finger at a map of the

United States and land on a spot where you couldn't find a pond

with some sort of panfish sunfish or white perch or white bass or yellow perch or even brown bullheads.

I'd be hard-pressed to find a place where you couldn't catch some fish on a fly rod.
