Summary

In this message from August 18th, 2019, at Bethel Church in Redding, CA, Kris Vallotton delivered a compelling sermon titled "Born for Times of Crisis." Drawing from the journey of Nehemiah rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, he emphasized the importance of impacting the city around you and embodying the kingdom of God on earth. In the wake of the Redding Carr fire, his message resonates as a call to embrace our role as cultural architects, positively influencing the world around us according to our Isaiah 61 calling. You know, I was thinking about as we were taking the offering this morning, the first in

0:22.5

first service. I was thinking about Jesus. Remember him? And I was thinking about, I think there's at

0:33.1

least two stories about Jesus standing on the seashore and the disciples are fishing. And they're

0:40.8

fishing and they're not catching anything. And one of the stories Jesus asks, hey, have you caught

0:47.2

anything? Which is kind of common for fishermen to ask other fishermen. If you caught anything,

0:51.6

like, no, we've been fishing all night, we haven't caught anything. Well, cast your net on the

0:55.6

other side of the boat. Remember that story. And I'm like, first of all, I'm thinking like, if I

1:00.6

fished all night and didn't catch anything, probably I tried both sides. I'm just thinking like,

1:06.1

thank you, thanks for the advice, but tried both sides. But they're like, okay, so they throw their

1:13.6

nets on the other side of the boat. And you know the story, they catch so many fish in one of the

1:20.8

stories that their nets start to break. And they, and they've motioned for their competitors, come

1:27.2

over and help us. And they get all this fish, right? And then I think it's John who says, I think

1:33.5

it's the Lord. This story is kind of funny because it says, and when Peter realizes it's the Lord,

1:40.3

he puts on his coats and jumps in the lake. I'm like, don't you take off your coat and jump in the

1:45.2

lake. I want to look good for God. You know, that's some people are still trying to do that.

1:52.8

Anyway, the story's intriguing this morning as we were just taking the offering because I was

1:56.8

thinking about, can you imagine if they caught like three fish and they're like, I think it's the

2:00.8

Lord. He's always stingy. Isn't it funny that they recognize the Lord when they caught more fish

2:11.3

than they can contain. Then they go, it must be the Lord. He always does this big thing. And you

2:18.5

know, think about it. That's all right. That's right. They weren't sport fishing. This is the way

2:27.0

they made a living. And all I want to say is that if you're in a tough financial place, would you

2:32.9

stand? Because I feel like this prophetic declaration over you all. Some of you are like, I'm not in
