Hello and welcome to today's independent travel podcast with me Simon Cawley, Friday the 20th of September, nearly the equinox.

I have the great fortune of being in Greece, specifically on the waterfront in Poros town on the island of Poros, which is about 30 miles south-west of Athens. You go across the Seronic Gulf. And when you get here,

there's a pretty good chance that you're going to be meeting my guests. They are Andy and

Melanie. And they have been coming here literally for decades and know more about poros than anybody

else here except possibly the locals.

Okay, so what brought you here in the first place?

What brought we here in the first place was divorce.

Oh, okay, right, that's an interesting turn.

I wasn't foreseeing that.

No, it was. And basically, I thought I'd escape what I was calling Saigon at the time

and come to Greece. No, I didn't live in Saigon. It was just the hostility of home. But so I came to

Greece and found myself on Poros and just basically fell for it, to be honest. was just just how welcoming was how welcoming the

families are here how welcoming the island is very good food and we've made to

feel very much at home here as if we're part of the family of Horos now how do you find

it in the first place though because Because it's not at all obvious.

And for people who've not been here,

you have to kind of get a ferry from Piraeus, the port for Athens,

and it's usually the ferry which goes all the way down to Idra and Spezzies,

which are much more known islands.

These days we tend to fly into Athens, metro down to Pereus,

overnight, one or two nights in Athens or Pereus,

and then hop across on the ferry from there.
