I'm Margaret Brennan in Washington, and this week on Face the Nation, the shutdown is over,

but the problems that led to the crisis persist, and politicians are scrambling to make prices

affordable for Americans.

Affordability is the new buzzword in Washington, and President Trump is testing ideas to help consumers, including potential

tariff dividends and 50-year mortgages.

Those may be a tough sell, but Mr. Trump did move to help consumers by rolling back tariffs

on some food imports, like bananas, beef, and tomatoes.

Just had a little bit of a rollback, but some foods, like coffee as an example, where the

prices of coffee are a little bit high. Now they'll be on the low side in a very short

period time. In terms of affordability, it's not a good word for the Democrats, it's a good

word for us because our prices are much lower and will soon be much, much lower. One price spike that can't be fixed by easing tariffs, health care premiums, especially

for those covered under Obamacare.

We'll look for solutions for that fix and more with two members of the House Problem Solvers Caucus,

New York Democrat Tom Swazi, and Nebraska Republican Don Bacon,

along with Dr. and Louisiana Republican Senator Bill Cassidy and New Hampshire Democratic

Senator Gene Shaheen.

Although we're all trying to put the pain of the shutdown behind us, the 43-day standoff

on Capitol Hill exposed and amplified the need to address the rising cost of health care
