More than 30 cities and states, including New York, have a deadline of today to change their sanctuary laws or face funding cuts.

1:17.1	Hey, Steven Natasha. So Attorney General Pam Bondi, she wrote a letter to sanctuary cities and states last week, giving them until today to agree to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement or risk losing
1:28.5	federal funding. Both Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hokel received this letter last week and
1:33.8	are issuing a response. This letter from the city's corporation council sent to the attorney
1:38.5	general. The letter states in part, quote, our system of federalism recognizes that states and cities need not carry out federal
1:46.3	mandates, including federal immigration laws. While Congress has charged the federal government
1:51.2	to enforce federal immigration laws, states and cities need not participate in such enforcement.
1:58.2	Adams has supported the city sanctuary laws, but has also urged the city council to make
2:02.1	changes. He says in order to better target migrants who are criminals. His office also just filed
2:08.0	court papers to support a lawsuit that calls on ICE to immediately stop arresting migrants
