Over the course of three days at Winchester Crown court the jury decided if the evidence the prosecution presented was sufficient enough to prove that Matthew Hamlen stabbed, robbed and bludgeoned to death 77-year-old Georgina Edmonds on the wet and grey afternoon of January 11, 2008. 


Hamlen had been in custody for the past 12 months since he was charged with murder, but always denied his involvement (Part 2 of 2)

Tears could be seen in the eyes of Hamlin's family, along with some jurors as they wept

following the verdict. Since he had been in custody his partner Emma White had given

birth to a baby boy. Georgina Redmond's family were in shock and looked visibly upset

as they were led from the court in by police.

Matthew Hamlin was found not guilty.

After the verdict, Judge Sir David Clark thanked jurors and told them they would not be

required to carry out jury service for another 10 years.

He thanked the families of the accused and the victim who were sat in the public gallery

for acting with dignity and respect.

So the family of Mrs Edmunds, they have the sympathy of everybody in the court for their
