Summary

Edinburgh-born Alistair Thompson, at only 18 years old, was about to commit a heinous

The young man murdered his 72-year-old grandmother, Margaret Thompson.

In a brutal and frenzied assault, Thompson hit her over the head twice with a hammer,

Leaving prison on licence in 1984, at 34 years old, he was free to begin a new life.
