Hi, everybody. Welcome to Scoop the Scoop on this week's news. I'm so glad you're here. Hope you're off to a great start to your week. I don't know what it is about our timing, but just as soon as I started to record, we had a huge clap of thunder outside here outside of Austin, Texas. And so it's sort of like a Garthbrook song. That's what we're in right now. We're just hoping for the best. We're trying to get through to the end, hoping that there's a happy ending. But the weather has definitely been a factor here. And my sister-in-law, who recently relocated to Texas, happily with my brother and their two young children, there was a big thunderstorm this weekend. And we were talking about the storms here in Texas. And she said, is this really how it is here? And I said, yes, it is something to get used

to. For those of you who are born and raised in the South, you may be used to it, but for any of us,

0:46.8

some of us from California, I don't want to say that too loud, depending on the crowd that I'm

0:52.0

speaking to. We confronted a whole host of other

0:55.0

issues like earthquakes and wildfires, but not necessarily the thunderstorms here in Texas. And it is

0:59.9

a force to be reckoned with for sure. So hopefully we have smooth recording and hopefully the storms

1:05.1

are not so severe that they start affecting travel and flash flood warnings that we saw this weekend.

1:09.9

You know, weather really will become a factor this summer. We always look towards that date of June through November. You know, we don't have a tornado season, but we do have a hurricane season and we're kind of getting closer to that window of time. So that will soon shortly be in the news cycle. Today we have a lot of big stories that deal with very big topics really around

1:27.7

the world. So I'm going to give you a little bit of something on all of these stories. We're in a

1:31.4

wait and see period with a lot of them. So I just want to give you some information and remind each

1:36.3

other why these stories matter. And we'll get to that in just a moment. But we're going to start first

1:40.7

with news in the category of news you can use. For any family out there that is confronting a severe allergy, this would be interesting

1:49.8

news for you, but also for the rest of us, some of us who are blessed not to have severe

1:54.0

allergies in our households, but who have loved ones, friends and families that may have

1:57.7

them that we have to navigate.

1:59.2

I thought this was really interesting news.

2:00.9

So just last week in the New England Journal of Medicine, there was a new study that was

2:04.7

published. And it was about a peanut patch. This is like a little patch, a little sticky

2:10.3

that goes between your shoulder blades. This was tried with toddlers, one to three years old.

2:16.2

They wore the patch basically for the whole day.

2:19.8

And they did this for about a year.

2:21.5

And the goal of this was to have an immune response because the patch had a little bit of peanut
