Summary

As we turn the page to a new season on the first day of Spring, we have lingering reminders of the past and a critical question: What keeps the peace?

Will a historic meeting between the leaders of China and Russia lead to a breakthrough in Ukraine?

Will a "forced marriage" of two banks lead to stability in the global financial system?

Will a former President find himself under arrest or exonerated as the U.S. presidential cycle heats up?

SmartHER News Founder Jenna Lee takes you behind the breaking news banners, to report what's going on and why it really matters.

Hi, everybody. Welcome to this week's scoop. I'm so glad to see you on the first day of spring.

0:09.2

And I'm sure at this point, you're probably sick hearing about that because everywhere,

0:12.4

everyone is shouting about the first day of spring. I think the weather's been so bad across

0:16.3

the country for all of us, that everyone's ready to turn the page, get to that next chapter. And the first day

0:22.7

of spring sort of signifies that, doesn't it? No matter what's happened over the last couple

0:27.5

weeks, we sort of have this opportunity to reset and start again, start anew. And that's really

0:32.8

what spring is about. It's an interesting juxtaposition of news, though, to have the first day of spring

0:38.9

with so many stories that are really driving the news cycle that don't feel new. There are some new

0:45.0

developments, but some very familiar players. And no matter how much we would like to turn the page

0:51.3

on these stories, because many of us would like that. I would like

0:54.7

nothing more than not to talk to you about the war in Ukraine, for example. I'd love that to be

0:59.9

over somehow, miraculously over, so that we could turn away from that suffering. We don't get to

1:05.7

determine the storylines. That's true of news. That's true in our life. And it's frustrating, isn't it,

1:12.1

when you want to rush into the next thing? And so, you know, I'm done with this. I want to move on.

1:16.9

It's spring. Let's turn to something else. And yet today, even on the first day of spring,

1:21.7

we have a reminder of the past because today marks 20 years since the beginning of the Iraq war.

1:28.6

And so here we have, again, the pull forward, but also the tug back to the past

1:33.0

and seeing these two things intersect in front of us.

1:36.5

I want to play for you.

1:38.2

The announcement made by President Bush at the time in 2003,

1:41.9

a announcement from the White House

1:44.9

about the way ahead in Iraq.
