Hi everybody. Welcome to Scoop where you get the scoop on this week's news. I'm Jenna. Welcome to

Smarrow News. I'm always so happy to see you. And we have some really big news items to get to today, including a lot of talk about politics. We're going to talk about a government shutdown. And we're also going to talk about the U.S. southern border, actually, as well as the northern border, which is going to make our report a little bit different. There's a dance that's happening between these two stories, that of politics

and national security. And we're going to talk about the connection or lack thereof between these

stories because we want to make sure that we place them appropriately. And I'm also going to share

with you a personal story about a media mogul who I credit with helping push me towards the path of smarter news. So I'm really

excited to get through this report with you today. And I'm going to start things off a little

bit differently because I was reading a random article yesterday that really seemed to

illuminate a really key question for this week. So let me rewind a little bit.

I received the New Yorker magazine. I was a New Yorker for 13 years. So I received the New Yorker

magazine. It makes me feel a little bit connected to a really important city in my life.

Now, you might say, well, the New Yorker magazine, Jenna, is progressive.

And, hey, what do you? I know that a lot of you are trying to figure out, is she really conservative? Is she really liberal? Like, what is this whole nonpartisan thing about? No, I really love nonpartisanship. And in fact, my interaction was said media mogul. Only reaffirmed that for me today, by the way. So I was looking over some old emails from years and years and years ago.
