and this is Smarter News, and I'm so grateful to see you again today for another live broadcast right

here in Austin, Texas. Just a reminder, I broadcast usually on Mondays. I'm a little bit of a

moving target, as you know, depending on what's going on in the daily course of

life. But I'm lucky enough to borrow an office at Liz James Design Studios, which is a jewelry

studio in Austin. And I love that contrast of working out of a creative space. And who thought

that you could do news and jewelry at the same time?

But we're going to do something different with news. We had the shiny studios and the bright lights and we had all of that. And that's great. Let me tell you something. It's great a lot of the time. The crew is great. But I like this. I like this new way of delivering news. Thank you to all of you who are showing up live for this broadcast.

And I don't know if qualifying it as an unexpected headline would be accurate because we've been talking about the threat to U.S. service members for months now at Smarter News with these ongoing attacks by Iranian-backed groups in the Middle East and the risk that it poses, the stakes that were there in front of us.

And one of the things we talked about, and I'm so proud of us that we were able to do this together, is that if we saw a service member killed in action based on some of these attacks, that this would dramatically

change the course of this story.

And what did we learn over the last 24 hours?

Three service members killed in an attack by Iranian-backed militants in the Middle East.
