Hello and welcome. My name is John August. My name is Drew Markort. And this is a script

0:05.4

note sidecast, a short episode about one thing, which is of course dogs. We should talk about

0:09.6

dogs. We should talk about the strike. Yeah. Hey, wait a minute. As a 12 o' 1 a.m. this

0:14.5

morning, the writer's Guild of America is East and West are both on strike. Those strike

0:18.8

rules we talked about last week, those are in effect. Effective immediately, no writer

0:23.3

should be writing anything for the studios. Instead, they should be lacing up their walking

0:26.5

shoes to start picketing, which begins this afternoon. Wow. Wait, that fast. That fast. So

0:32.0

the action has moved from a small group of people talking in rooms to a very large group of people

0:36.4

marching in front of studio gates. Oh, once private and quiet is now public and loud, it's moved

0:43.4

from like the insider to normal ray. I was looking for a good, what the insider felt, okay, but

0:50.2

0:53.7

it's not 12. I agree, man, it's not a jury thing, but it's like I'm imagining the courtroom

0:58.0

scenes from or the mediation scenes and social network. Yeah, sorry. A little like that. It's not

1:04.4

that anymore. It's loud and it's noisy. So I'll be out there this afternoon, along with the

1:08.2

entire board negotiating committee. We're trying to visit every picket line and talk to members.

1:12.6

So does this mean that negotiations are over? I mean, could you make a deal tomorrow with the

1:16.2

MPTP? Yeah, technically we could, I guess we could reach a deal with the MPTP tomorrow, but also,

1:21.8

no, because realistically, the MPTP wants to make their deal with a DGA. That's for their meeting

1:26.0

with next DGA schedule to go in May 10th. So if the DGA sticks that date, they'll be sitting in the

1:31.7

same conference room where we spend the last four weeks. They'll be eating candy from the same

1:36.0

candy closet. All right, so you guys didn't reach a deal last night, but presumably over those four

1:42.3

weeks, you did make some progress. Yes, that's absolutely true. We did make some progress. So what
