Hello and welcome.

My name is John August and my name is Drew Markwerk and this is a script notes sidecast,

a short episode about one thing.

In this case, that one thing is the results of a strike authorization vote.

This afternoon, it was announced that the SAV passed with a 97.85% of the vote, that's

compared to a 90% in 2007 and a 96% in 2017.

In total, 9,218 votes were cast, which was a record, accounting for 78.8% of eligible

voters, so a huge percentage and a huge turnout.

But also not really unexpected.

That's not unexpected, you are right.

It was never going to be a nail-biter, but I'd say that you're also facing the challenge

of high expectations, because that 97% in 2017 is a really hard number to beat, but also

nice to beat.

The more interesting number I guess is the number of total votes, because that makes it

clear that those yes votes aren't just the hardcore, rattle-rowsers.

Basically four out of five members voted and nearly every one of them voted yes.

That's good news.

That's great.
