Summary

1:18.1	conservative and a military hawk. And you didn't think we were dropping enough bombs on Vietnam in 1964.
1:26.5	Here's an unfun fact. The United States was dropping plenty of bombs on Vietnam in 1964. We would
1:33.0	ultimately drop 8 million tons of bombs on Vietnam before that war ended in 1973. Twice as many
1:40.5	bombs as were dropped during the entire Second World War by everybody, not just the US, by
1:47.3	the United States, Japan, Germany, Italy, the UK, the Soviet Union. But in 1964, Goldwater didn't
1:54.9	think we were dropping enough bombs on Vietnam or the right kind of bombs. He wanted us to use
2:02.0	NUX. That was just one of the things wrong with Goldwater. He thought LBJ should nuke Vietnam. And
2:07.8	he promised to be elected to nuke Vietnam. Hell, Goldwater wanted field commanders in Vietnam to
2:13.9	have the authority on their own to use tactical nuclear weapons, even if it meant risking a nuclear
2:19.9	confrontation with Moscow that would end life on this planet. Goldwater's campaign slogan in 1964,
2:28.1	in your heart, you know he's right. Democrats countered with, in your guts, you know he's nuts.
2:35.9	I think it might be time to bring that slogan back. Just one last time. Republican office
