Last week's Intro to the Podcast was kind of heavy and it was kind of long,

so I'm going to try to keep it light and try to keep it short this week.

But first, yeah, something heavy that I didn't get to last week is weighing on me and I want to

talk about it. So forgive me, in Texas, we got a taste of our post-rove future. A woman,

Luzelle Herrera, arrested after performing a self-induced abortion. Details are sketchy,

they're sketchy still a couple of weeks later, but Herrera was charged with murder taken to jail

and held on a $500,000 bond. The charges were dropped because she hadn't actually broken any laws.

It was reported that the ER staff called the sheriff after Herrera showed up at the hospital

and told them she had self-induced an abortion. The sheriff apparently arrested Herrera because

he felt like it. Dr. Jen Gunter, author of the vagina Bible, frequent guest on the love cast,

wrote a long post out on Vigenda, advising women in red states who might be self-inducing abortions

more often these days, self-inducing with medications that are safe and legal in blue states,

but only safe in red states, not legal. Dr. Gunter wrote a long post advising women

that emergency room physicians can't tell the difference between a miscarriage and a self-induced

abortion. So there is no reason to tell an ER doctor or nurse that you are there.

In an emergency room, because you self-induced an abortion, you can just tell them it was a miscarriage.

Now, complications from medication abortions are rare, but they do happen. Women in Texas and

other red states need to know, well, I guess they need to know that they can't trust their health

care providers not to call the police on them, so don't disclose. This is where we are.
