0:06.6 | I've talked about Saul before on the show, and he's a photographer who's |
0:09.4 | been an enormous influence on me. |
0:11.5 | His work has an enormous impact I think on a lot of |
0:13.7 | photographers and he's probably best known for his early color work and the early |
0:18.1 | color work is completely different than what we're going to look at today. |
0:20.9 | I'm going to pull out a book that I got that was |
0:23.8 | published this year called Early Black and White. It's part of the whole series |
0:27.3 | that Early Color was from and you're going to see that the black and white work |
0:30.5 | is considerably different than what we are used to seeing with the |
0:33.5 | color work. The color work combines a wonderful sense of street |
0:36.8 | photography of New York City in the 1950s and 1960s with these wonderful deep |
0:41.0 | reds and oranges and occasionally blues and purples as well. |
0:45.6 | And there's also a layer of abstraction that comes with those where Saul would like shoot through |
0:49.6 | windows or he would catch reflections and he would add a layer of complexity into the work that he was doing. |
0:54.8 | The black and white work is kind of the opposite of all that and I think this speaks to the |
0:59.1 | talent level that Saul Lider was working on and speaks to his genius as an artist. |
1:04.2 | And so probably the best thing to do is come over and look at some images. |
1:06.7 | So without further ado, this is the black and white work of saw Lider. |
