For over a year and a half, I've been mulling over an idea.

That's not anything that'll make headlines or be recorded in the history books,

but it is historical. And today, I'm ready to announce.

But before I do, I wanted to thank all of you who listen to history daily,

because today is our 500th episode, 500 Days of History,

all the triumph, tragedy, wonder, and woe than an exploration of the past can bring.

So I thank you to Pascal Hughes from Noiser, who was crazy enough to suggest a daily podcast,

and a huge thanks to all the talented folks at Noiser and Airship

who make history happen every day on this podcast.

But most of all, thank you to you for listening.

Because I can tell you, when asked the old philosophical question,

if a podcast is made, but no one listens to it, does it exist?

The answer is no. History daily exists only because you listen.

But more pragmatically, history daily exists because advertisers are willing to pay us

because you listen. Advertisers can't podcast without them. Or can you?

Here I should return to my announcement because I've given you a bit of a hint,

but I won't quite yet. Instead, I'll keep talking about you for a bit.
