every day here on history daily. But for me, this journey all started with another one of my

podcasts, American History Tellers. And right now, we're airing a series that covers one of the

most enthralling, inspiring, infuriating, painful and powerful periods of American history,

Reconstruction. Most of us were not really taught the Reconstruction period, and that might be on

purpose in some places. But the story of how the United States again became the United States

after years of civil war, the deaths of hundreds, thousands, and the new freedom of millions is a

story not to de-emphasize. The years between 1865 and 1877 are debatably America's most consequential,

where the promises made and broken set the course for another hundred years of racial inequity.

We were so close. So I'm thrilled to be hosting a six episode series on Reconstruction for American
