Welcome back friends to Short Stories for Kids. Sarah woke up startled and stumbled out of bed. The whole earth seemed to shake.

She quickly dressed and ran downstairs where her parents were already waiting.

What's happening? asked Sarah frightened.

I don't know it seems to be a very strong earthquake.

We have to get to safety! Her father Paul shouted back trying to drown out the noise.

Come on quickly into the kitchen under the table said Sarah's mother Mary pulling them both

behind her just as she had found shelter under the table,

Paul's mobile phone suddenly rang. He answered it immediately and listened to a panicked voice.

Paul replied and hung up.

What happened? asked Sarah.

Paul swallowed for a moment.

The hospital, the earthquake caused parts of it to collapse,

and several people are trapped under the rubble. We have to try to rescue them immediately.

Then Sarah stood up determinedly and grabbed her jacket.
