I'm the host Scott Feinberg and my guest today is a Canadian-born American daughter

of Korean immigrants who has become one of the most respected actresses of her generation

Sandra O.

O first made her name playing supporting roles on TV shows like HBO's comedy series Arlis on which she appeared from 1996 through

2002 and in films such as Gary Marshall's The Princess Diaries in 2001, Audrey

Wells's Under the Tuscan son in 2003, and her then

husband Alexander Payne sideways in 2004, the last of which was nominated for the Best Picture Oscar and was awarded the best ensemble SAG award.

She became a star though, playing Christina Yang on Shonda Rhymes's hit ABC Medical Drama,

Gray's Anatomy from 2005 through 2014,

accruing five Emmy nominations for Best Supporting Actress

in a Drama Series,

and winning Golden Globe and SAG awards for her performance as well.

Rimes has said of O, quote,

One of the greatest gifts of my creative life

has been the opportunity to write words to be spoken by Sandra O.

The reason is simple.

Sandra O is a virtuoso.

She treats dialogue like notes of music.

Every word must be played, every syllable correctly toned.
