Welcome back to Hot Takes and Deep Dives, and my next guest needs no introduction, but

I'm going to do in any way.

She has written and performed several off-Broadway shows, recorded a dozen musical comedy albums,

eight iconic appearances on David Letterman and Howard Stern, guest starred on tons of TV shows,

including Will & Grace, most recently in my favorite pose, High Sandra Bernhard.

Good morning, or hello, whatever time it is out in the unknown world of podcasts and conversations

that just sort of come and go, free-wheeling. How are you? Let's just start with that.

I'm good. I'm good. You know, I mean, I'd be better if there was more

justice in this country, and the right people got, you know, put behind bars and the people

who shouldn't be. We got set free, and I wish there was more equity and, you know, accountability.

But, you know, that said, I feel like it's on really on two sides because the good thinking,

smart people, are propelling, you know, culture forward very quickly, and the sort of regressive

frightened people are trying to hold it back. So it is, it makes for a very difficult

smooth evolution to where we should be culturally, economically, every other way that we can

possibly think of. You know, I want to say, I, you know, you're talking about moving the

culture forward, and in my personal life, I have found so many of my people through you,

through this shared language of being fans of yours, and all that comes with that references,

and my personal holiday tradition for the past 10 years has been going to see you at Joe's pub.

I started off going on my own. As I started having more gay friends, I would introduce them to you,

and then suddenly, of course, everyone knew who you were. So I am so psyched that you're going

to be back at Joe's pub over the holiday season. Are you excited to be returning to your roots?

Oh, absolutely. You know, last year was, I mean, it was a culmination of so many things, you know.
