It's overtaken Silicon Valley as the place to innovate and carve out that next tech unicorn.

Last week, Timeout even named it the best city in the world.

But best for who?

It is this jewel of the West Coast, but it also has just extreme abject poverty and misery

on its streets and tent encampments that you might expect quite literally in the third world.

Perhaps all that glissars may not be gold.
