The story I'm about to tell you

shouldn't start with me,

but with the ship itself.

The RMS Titanic was built in Belfast, Ireland.

Some also call it the SS Titanic because it was a steamer ship.

However, RMS Titanic is more of the official name and stands for Royal Mail Steamer or Royal Mail Ship.

Of course it was a passenger ship, but it was called a Royal Mail Ship because it was also

certified to carry British postal mail. In fact, all ships at that time,

military and civilian that were under the British flag, carried the distinction of RMS. This gave the

ship the protection of the British Crown.

An attack on any royal mail ship was considered an attack on the British crown and an act of war.

Now, you may wonder what name was on the ship.

Did it say RMS Titanic or SS Titanic?
