I'm John Bachel, Mary Kistle, my colleague of several decades, is here,

former senior advisor to the

Secretary of State, a fellow at the Hudson Institute to comment on, the Secretary of State,

Mr. Rubio, presenting his budget and his policies to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee,

a commanding presence in the history of the U.S. Senate and in the presidency.

Many presidents have moved from the Senate of the U.S. Senate and in the presidency. Many presidents have moved

from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. They ask extremely big questions about the United

States foreign policy. We can presume there will be attention to the Strait of Hormuz and the

confrontation with the Islamic Republic of Iran over its suspect nuclear weapons

program.

We can also anticipate there will be questions about Cuba, which is a special concern of the

Secretary of State because of his family background.

And also he is a fluid Spanish speaker, and therefore all of the Americans are concerned

to him, not only Cuba and Venezuela, but now the vote in Colombia, the upcoming vote in

Brazil, et cetera. He has made it a very clear priority at the State Department. And then there

is the confrontation or cooperation or trade dispute with the People's Republic of China.
