I'm John Batchel with my good friend of many years, Jeff Bliss's

Pacific Watch, but now I call upon

Yodler Bliss, Engineer Bliss, Deccan Bliss. Jeff is a veteran of Disneyland at all times of

his youth. And he sent me a photograph of Disneyland before it really even was in the imagination

of that would be me, five years old or seven

years old in Philadelphia as a member of the boomer generation. And it appeared for the first time

on Sunday nights on the television, the black and white television that we had. And it was a magic

time 7.30 in the evening,

knowing that when Disney's wonderful world of whatever Disney ended, I had to go to bed and

that meant to school the next day for a week of pain and torture. Okay. So Disney was my last

hold on paradise, and then I slipped away to fear.

And then looking forward to next week. So it was always wrapped up in joy and fear. However,

there was a time before Disneyland. And Jeff sent me this postcard of a major highway, clearly

coming to an exchange and Disneyland is right

there where Jeff on the northeast corner of the exchange?

Yes, John.

No, actually it's the northwest corner of the exchange.

You're looking down, the interchange is the north-south five freeway, otherwise known as the Golden State Freeway, and the east-west road is Harbor Boulevard, which is a major road.

It goes all the way out to the beach, you know, more than a dozen miles away.

And so Disneyland is in that area on the northwest quadrant there uh those those groves and those

big open fields i see and the news is that disney is expanding or may be expanding or may be

building a new park what is how exactly does the rumor go well last year that it was all finally

...
