and of Berkeley Law in California, to help me understand some of the common sense and not

California and energy. Writing most recently in the New York Post with his colleague Michael Toth

at the Hudson at the Sy Civitas Institute. I learned that

California pays the highest prices in the country for gasoline. It's dearer to everywhere right now

because of the prices in the Middle East. But California's high prices are not derived from

geopolitics. They're derived from decisions made in Sacramento

by governors, by members of the legislature,

and apparently endorsed by the people of California.

John, a very good evening to you.

You spend a deal of time driving in California.

What is the thinking in Sacramento

to burden the people of California with these high prices of gasoline, of diesel, of energy in general?

I think it's this ideology that places devotion to abstract ideas like fighting climate change above the everyday lives of people in California.

California does not have a lot of mass transit.

Most people have to drive, not just to get to work, but to get to the grocery store to do everything in life.

And California is a driving state. And gas prices here in California

are the highest in the country for two reasons. One, California places a lot of taxes on every

gallon of gas consumed. But second, California has, and as you said, John, because this is what

the people of California apparently want,
