my guide on dealing with the aggression of the People's Republic of China with regard high-end manufacturing of chips, microchips, AI, anything to do with the highest end right now in Silicon Valley. In this particular case,

it happens to be chipmakers in China, two of them, semiconductor manufacturing

international corporation shortened as SMIC, and Wah Hong, the second largest chipmaker. Jack, a very

What is the determination of the Commerce Department? Good evening to you. Thank you for having me.

So the Commerce Department's determination is to limit the sale of U.S. chipmaking equipment,

particularly to Wahong's latest facilities. Now, the Commerce

Department here is doing something that has been more common, particularly under the second

Trump administration, which is targeting particular individual Chinese companies and banning them

from acquiring certain American products.

So while the Biden administration took a pretty tough line on stopping the sale of

American semiconductor manufacturing components to China, the Trump administration has been a bit

more targeted into, rather than writing out large rules of regulation,

sending a little more targeted letters to specific American firms, banning them from selling to particular Chinese firms.
