This is John Batchel, comment by Victoria Coates of the Heritage Foundation about the visit of the King Charles III

his speech before Congress's presentation at the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States as a colony that broke away from the very British Empire that the king lords over.

And here's Victoria, why it's important, what we make of it.

I'm really interested in those kinds of relationships.

And when Franklin was named the first ambassador to the Great Britain,

I mean, the king received him very graciously. I think there was an

understanding, even during the conflict of the revolution, the period after leading up to the

War of 1812, that even if we had our differences and those differences rose to the level of

war, we still were going to be deeply and profoundly interconnected.

And that's really been the basis of the relationship for the last 250 years. And I think

very interesting to have King Charles here, this visit, obviously a lot of pomp and circumstance,

very important to his legacy, but it's also the kickoff for our 250th celebrations that we'll be having over the next couple of months.

So having the king of the United Kingdom here for that very important event for us, I think is quite meaningful.
