I'm John Batchler. I welcome my good colleague Anatole Le, of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft.

He is the head of the Eurasia program at the Quincy Institute.

And Eurasia right now is one way of talking about NATO, following the violent events of these last weeks.

And now what appears to be a pause, not a profound pause, but a nick in time, so-called ceasefire.

And yet, Anatole, a very good evening to you.

NATO has not participated in the combat.

Yes.

But NATO has always made it clear, or parts of NATO, France, Germany, Britain, that they will participate

post-conflict, post-violence, post-bombing. And I noted yesterday, Mr. McCrone was quick to put out a

note saying that he wants to get involved in resolving with the crisis, and certainly that

suggests that he would get involved with warships as well, to maintain the freedom of the

seas, or at least to provide security for the Gulf states who are alarmed at how vulnerable

they are to Iranian attacks.

So do I misspeak about NATO? Mr. Rudy was with the president

in these last hours and was very much speaking for NATO in a way that perhaps did not please

Mr. Trump, but did remind everybody that it has skills when it comes to Iran.

And NATO countries were always part of the JCPOA of many years ago

and perhaps have offices in Iran that the United States does not.

Is NATO now part of the story, Enn-Itold?
