that I recalled writing down for the professor to comment on on Lula de Silva,

the three-time elected president of Brazil, the dominant economy in all of the Americas,

it's the biggest population, is promoting former Chilean president Michelle Bachelet to become U.N. Secretary General,

even though Chile is no longer nominating Bachelet to be Secretary General.

Professor, I'd like to say this is some sort of stunt, but Bachelet would not be my first 400th choice for the UN under the

present world conditions. Why is Lula doing this? Why is you pressing the case? Does it help him

at home in some fashion? We have a few minutes. John, I think this is a combination of a personal

commitment. The Latin America tends to be very clubby on both the left and right.

And so Lula and Michel Bachelet have been friends in politics for quite some time.

Michel Bachelet is part of what's called the Concentacion.

Basically, she is considered relatively center-left.

Lula, at least at one point in time, we're considered center-left,
