I'm John Batchew with David Albright, who is the president and founder of the Institute for Science and International Security. David's been my guide on the Iranian nuclear weapons program for many years.

0:27.6

Decades now, David. And we come to a moment where it is possible the Islamic Republic of Iran has

0:33.0

gone too far, mass murder of its own people. And therefore, something must be done. The day after it is done,

0:41.1

you have a positive example from South Africa. You have other examples where the Soviet, the former

0:49.3

Soviets, cooperated. What will that look like, David? What is your best case scenario for the day after?

0:55.2

Well, right now I don't really have a best case because there are very few, certainly people in

1:02.6

the United States don't have any relations with the Iranian nuclear infrastructure.

1:08.2

The Russians really can't be trusted on this. and we don't know about the Chinese.

1:14.8

So I think in general, I'm just worried.

1:17.8

And I think the reason we wanted to do this article or this op-ed was to start processing

1:31.7

destruction of facilities, you know, trying to increase the chance of regime change, but think through

1:38.7

of what you would do if chaos resulted. I mean, would U.S. Delta SEALs go in? Would European military go in? I mean, it would maybe seen as a little less of a threat? Would, would you try to work with Russia and China to convince them collectively to get some kind of control over the situation?

2:04.5

It could be the establishment of inspection regime that's tasked with getting rid of, first, accounting for everything of the nuclear side, and then getting rid of it, getting rid of what's dangerous. And in the long run,

2:20.6

maybe there will be an effort to rejuvenate the nuclear industry in Iran, but in the short term,

2:25.8

if things don't go well in terms of control over the situation in the country, then I think

2:33.2

you have to have some institution that goes in there

2:35.9

to try to account for the material, make sure it's destroyed or removed from the country,

2:41.8

and that this threat is, if not eliminated, greatly reduced.

2:47.5

Would the IA, under Mr. Rossi, would he answer, or is that no longer adequate?

2:53.8

I don't think it wasn't inadequate in Iraq.

2:56.1

I mean, in the end, the effort was headquartered in Vienna reporting to the Director General,
