I'm John Batchel with Jim McHag, my colleague and co-host, and we're speaking with

Anatole Leiband of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft about matters that are very

difficult to summarize.

The events of the last 24 hours, indeed the events of the last week since Mr. Trump threatened

NATO or major parts of NATO with additional tariffs as if they were a bazooka being fired at our allies.

Now we turn to the matter of Board of Peace, which I cannot define other than it's said to represent

a gathering of countries, some of whom are not considered acceptable conduct, including Vladimir

Putin was invited, to supervise not just Gaza, but maybe take the place of the UN? I don't

know. The reporting is very inexact, and I think it's probably a product of Mr. Trump and his counselors making this up as they go along to see who will show up at the Board of Peace.

It used to be about Gaza, but I'm not sure it is anymore.

Anatole, have you got any clarity on what the Board of Peace represents?

It obviously represents Trump's desire for the image of the peacemaker, you know, and his

grotesque ambition to get the Nobel Peace Prize. And, you know, perhaps beyond that, it is a way of, to bring countries, some major countries like Russia, others not so major, into the reconstruction of Gaza.

And the, I suppose, trying to place some limits on Israel while simultaneously controlling Hamas.

But if you look at the composition of this board, I mean, obviously some critical countries from the Middle East, UAE, Saudi Arabia.

But, I mean, Belarus, seriously. Russia, I mean, of course, Russia should be there.

But then if you're going to include the great powers of the world, then China should be there.

India should be there.

But as you say, I mean, it's also totally unclear what this board is going to do because the fee for joining is $1 billion.

But it will take, even if you put all of these countries together and even if they pay,

and I don't know where Belarus is going to get one billion dollars from.

But, you know, the estimates for the reconstruction of Gaza are in the hundreds of millions,
