I'm John Batchler. My colleague and friend Jim McTagg of Barron's Magazine, former Washington editor,

now a retired novelist in Lancaster County, joins me, and we're headed to comments about

the last days and Europe, with Anatole Levin of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft,

the head of the Eurasia Project, looking at the events in Davos to begin

with in the last 24 hours, especially the speech by the President of the United States,

addressing matters of great concern for our NATO allies and certainly for the people of Greenland,

and then also addressing what is called the Board of

Peace, which is a strange, hybrid organization that seems to be defined day to day by

remarks by the president and or his counselors, but it has no written program that I'm

familiar with.

These are good days for policy

op-eds such as you write, so congratulations. This is Anatol weather. But the Anatoe weather

includes the necessity to understand what to make of the president's reversal within 24 hours

about his remarks on Greenland. One meeting with Mark Rudy and the

punishing tariffs that were announced for February 1st are called off. And yet, well, I'll stop

there because there's no conclusion. There's just this bounce that goes on and on that affects

worldwide markets. How do you regard the president's speech yesterday?

Was it expected by Mr. Rudy? Was NATO expecting him to reverse himself? There was a emergency

summit called for today, which may or may not go forward. Your look to be very alarmed.
