This is CBSI on the World. The New World Report. I'm John Batchel with Professor Abin Ellis of the U.S.

Army War College. We marched to the sound of voting. In this instance, the voting has happened,

and yet Honduras, a nation that, as the professor reminds me, is a Central American state with

frontage on the Caribbean,

watching very carefully the gunboats off of Venezuela,

but then an election held,

and now the election denounced by the serving president,

President Castro, as an electoral coup.

The two men contesting are Nasrallah, Salvador Nasrallah, and a man named Asphora, who appears right now after several versions of a recount to be well in the lead, except Professor Honduras is not resolved.

The Congress is at this point threatening to throw the results out or not

accept the results. And there's talk of a new election. The other detail here is that the

President of the United States, before the vote, supported one candidate over another, and in, then released, pardoned a former president of the country who was in jail for a long time for narco trafficking.

That's enough confusion.

Are they going to vote again?

Thank you, John. Well, best case, this is probably not going to get resolved for a while.

The worst case, this could get a bit ugly, perhaps also leading into a potential conflict with

the U.S., at least in terms of words with President

Trump having strongly endorsed one of the candidates, the one who's currently on top in the

count, Nastria's Fuhra, indicating actually that the other two were not only communists,

but the U.S. would not necessarily be continuing to provide money to Honduras if the other two won, and there would be, quote, held to pay if there was a different outcome. So what's literally happened right now, Honduras traditionally has been, again, has very high levels of corruption as well as high levels
