PREVIEW β€” Kevin Fraser β€” Regulating the AI Frontier vs. Focusing on Practical User Experience. Fraser examines the central dilemma in AI regulation, observing that proponents prioritize regulating sophisticated frontier AI developed internally by major labs including OpenAI, Anthropic, and XAI. Fraser contends that regulatory focus should instead prioritize real-world user experiences when AI is deployed in practical settings such as hospitals and educational institutions, ensuring policymakers develop a comprehensive understanding of both risks and benefits.

Is it too early for it? Perhaps. In any event, here, Kevin presents the dilemma. AI, challenged by the

So the folks who are really leaning into the idea that we need to regulate the frontier of

AI, they'll say that when you go and you look at what labs are developing internally,

what labs like Open AI, Anthropic, XAI, what they're working at within their four walls is more sophisticated than what we're seeing in the popular domain.

1:14.8

And so they're putting a lot of value on what may be the risks of future AI that hasn't been released generally.

And that's why I think we need to really lean into the experience that normal users are

having.

1:30.7

What are we seen on the ground in terms of when AI is put into a hospital or into an educational

setting?

1:37.7

What are the pros and cons we're seeing in that context?

1:40.7

Because we need to make sure that we're getting a full picture of AI rather than just focusing on very narrow risks or very narrow use cases.
