I'm John Batchel.

Watching Canada thanks to Conrad Black, distinguished biographer,

and writing his National Post column right now about a question mark in Parliament.

There is a new prime minister, Mr. Carney, a former central banker, representing the same

party that Mr. Trudeau represented. Mr. Poyevra is the leader of the opposition, as he was

when Mr. Trudeau was the prime minister. There seem to be questions raised about Mr. Pollyueva's

leadership and the sense of the conservatives facing Mr. Carney.

Conrad, a very good evening to you. As I understand that these are early days for Mr. Carney,

and if I understand the case you're making in your new column, it has not yet been determined

if Mr. Carney is the man for the job. We have much to learn about him. Is that correct?

Good evening to you. Yeah, good evening, you, John. Well, he managed to get his budget adopted

by, but only by margin of two votes in Parliament, so it was very close. Look, I think he's made his way

not badly. And he's, he has some difficult positions within his party to reconcile.

But while he's been kind of non-committal on a number of important areas, it has to be said he's moved with some agility up to now.

But I think everyone's still waiting to, you know,

to see what he does once he really gets going,

because he hasn't done very much so far to present a budget

that has a tremendous collection of slogans and promises,

but it's not terribly precise.

It is important to remember that Mr. Carney is prime minister,

and you can't discount the fact, because he turned a campaign into what you'd have to say
