Hello and welcome back to the Food Medic podcast. I'm your host, as always, Dr. Hazel.

0:07.0

This week I have one of my very first guests back on the podcast, Dr. Brendan Stubbs. I think he was

0:12.3

episode two from season one and I will make sure to drop the link in the show notes below if you

0:17.7

want to go back and listen to that episode first. Brendan is a physio and a leading researcher in physical activity, exercise and mental health

0:25.3

and the relationship between the mind and the body.

0:28.5

He has published over 650 international academic papers, which just blows my mind.

0:35.3

And his research has had substantial impact, for instance, informing

0:39.3

several World Health Organization guidelines. Brandon is currently an invited expert advising the

0:45.7

World Health Organization on their global response to mitigate the mental health impact from the

0:50.6

COVID-19 pandemic. So super important work. Since 2019, he's also been recognised by the

0:56.6

Web of Science as being a world highly cited, i.e., one of the world's most influential researchers

1:02.7

from over 8 million in the fields of mental health, psychiatry, psychology. Brendan and I

1:08.9

stayed in touch since season one, and since then he's obviously continued to just do

1:12.5

1:17.4

admire him and his dedication to research so I'm super grateful that we could just grab him for an

1:22.4

hour of his time to have this chat today. We've obviously discussed the link between mood and our mental health

1:29.9

and the relationship between exercise before in the podcast. And I want to pick that conversation

1:34.2

back up and expand into other factors that influence our risk of poor mental health.

1:38.7

For those listening who are keen to get into research, Brendan also shares some helpful advice

1:43.0

on how to do this also.

1:46.7

I mean, first of all, I'd just love to start by asking you a little bit more about you.

1:52.0

I know we've done this before, but for people who don't maybe know who you are or what you do,
