An exploration of the use of cannabis as a sacrament in spiritual practice

• Includes a new translation of the Five Moral Precepts of Buddhism, adapted to include energetic practices and the judicious use of entheogenic substances as a legitimate support for spiritual growth
• Includes access to 9 audio meditations
With the end of marijuana prohibition on the horizon, people are now openly seeking a spiritual path that embraces the benefits of cannabis. Drawing upon his decades of experience as a teacher of Buddhism, breathing, yoga, and embodied spirituality, Will Johnson examines Eastern spiritual perspectives on marijuana and offers specific guidelines and exercises for integrating cannabis into spiritual practice.
The author explains how the great Hindu god Shiva enjoyed consuming bhang, a marijuana mixture that would cause his body to make spontaneous movements. From these cannabis-inspired movements, Shiva brought the body-focused practices of dance and yoga to the world. Examining the spiritual path of Shiva, including the Sadhu tradition, Johnson provides specific instructions and protocols for using marijuana as a sacrament as Shiva did. He explores how to embrace cannabis for the practices of spontaneous movement, ecstatic dance, sitting meditation, and gazing meditation. He reveals how the ecstatic surrender to the feeling energies of the body in these practices is enhanced through the ingestion of Shiva’s herb, allowing you to open the body’s energies more fully and get closer to the Divine or your higher self.

1:38.3 | All right, thank you for joining me tonight for another edition of mysterious radio. I'm your host K-Town and tonight my special guest is author, Will Johnson, and he's here to discuss his book is called Cannabis in spiritual practice, the ecstasy, a Shiva and the calm of Buddha in this book is available on Amazon in Kindle and paperback. |
2:01.3 | In this book, Will provides instructions for using marijuana for spiritual practices, a spontaneous movement, ecstasy dance, sitting meditation and gazing meditation, allowing you to open up your body's energies more fully and getting closer to the divine or your higher self. |
2:20.3 | And I start off by asking Will how he got involved in meditation practices. |
2:40.3 | Yeah, okay, well I'm someone who got involved in meditation practices fairly early in my early 20s. I also started really getting into awakening my body in those years as well. |
2:55.3 | And somehow the two seem to connect and seem to get launched on this path that I eventually started writing about because it seemed it seemed clear to me that most spiritual practices traditionally focus on what we conventionally call mind, but look upon body is some kind of obstacle. |
3:18.3 | And I was experiencing was just the opposite that you awaken the body you bring it to light to life most of us don't feel very much, but on every part of the body down to the smallest cell, there's these minute little pin prick blips the sensation we can awaken that. |
3:34.3 | So body becomes this unified field of feeling presence. So when you know that kind of thing goes on that becomes a doorway to some of these deeper deeper and altogether natural conditions of human beings we have access to if we give ourselves permission to go there. |
3:56.3 | So in a sense, I just kept writing about that now it is also true for me in addition to being a Buddhist teacher and working in the Buddhist world. |
4:06.3 | I also as a young guy cannabis was God's medicine for me at the time and it just would be untruthful for me to say anything about that it was very, very important for me when it came into my life. |
4:20.3 | I helped me get in touch with lots of things about myself that I saw that perhaps I was covering over resisting or not owning or acknowledging I've also been a musician playing improvisational music. |
4:34.3 | So it was also an ally in that over the years I found that there were certain practices not all of them and basically the Buddhist practices don't particularly work all that well with cannabis. |
4:48.3 | And I talk about that in the book, but there are these other practices more from the Shiva tradition that cannabis could almost be seen as an integral component of the practice and so in addition to teaching in the Buddhist world where when I teach those retreats everybody follows the precepts the last one is no intoxicants no mind altering substances at all. |
5:10.3 | And I do that in the context of those teachings and practices because it works, but when I'm at home on my own doing some of these body awakening practices outside of the Buddhist sitting. |
