I've been hearing for the past few years that the solve rates for murders in nearly all

states across the US has been steadily decreasing. What that means is that today's police

forces are able to solve and close murder cases at lower rates than they could, say, 30

years ago. You'll find plenty of articles online about this phenomenon, which some have

called a quote-national disaster. What's really interesting to me are the factors that experts

think have contributed to these lower rates, like no snitching philosophies in some communities,

less cooperation with law enforcement because of less trust, and diminishing law enforcement

resources. Now, the argument over whether the police are too well-funded or not funded

is that maybe these lower rates are closer to what true rates should have looked like
