Welcome, everyone. Pints with Jack is your weekly CS Lewis podcast, where Matt, Andrew and I

break down and discuss the works of CS Lewis. This season, we're eavesdropping on the correspondence

of a senior demon

screw tape, as he explains how to tempt the patient, a human assigned to be tempted by screwtap's

nephew, Wormwood. Each week will be considering a different letter, untwisting screwtap's hellish

logic, and forming a battle plan for our own spiritual lives. However, today is a Thursday,

and it's therefore an after-hours episode, and we are nearing the end of Barfield Month.

And today, we're talking to Dr. Mark Vernon.

Mark is a psychotherapist and writer, with an interest in ancient philosophy and a focus on the skills and insights that illuminate are in our lives.

His studies began with a degree in physics,

before two degrees in theology, followed by a PhD in philosophy, an academic journey which

took him from the universities of Durham and Oxford to my sister's own alma mater, Warwick. His

professional life began as a priest in the Church of England, from which he resigned about 20 years

ago. Now, as a psychodynamic psychotherapist, he has a private practice in London working of England, from which he resigned about 20 years ago. Now, as a psychodynamic

worked at the Morsley Hospital in South London in a personality disorder service. He is a teacher

and writer, and is the author of A Secret History of Christianity, which is based upon the ideas

of the Oxford inkling that
