After Hours with Metropolitan Callistos Ware.

Pints with Jack is your weekly C.S.L.S. Podcast, where Matt, Andrew and I break down and discuss the works of C.S. Lewis.

This season, we're eavesdropping on the correspondence of a senior demon, Scrutape,

as he explains how to tempt the patient, a human assigned to be tempted by Scrutate's nephew,

Wormwood. Each week will be considering a different letter, untwisting Scrutap's

Hellas logic, and forming a battle plan for our own

spiritual lives. However, today is a Thursday, and therefore is an after-hours episode where I'm

interviewing a guest. So far in this podcast, we've had a handful of clergy, a Calvary Chapel pastor,

Sam Anglican Vickers, and most recently a Byzantine priest and nun.

And today we welcome a Metropolitan, Metropolitan Callistos Ware.

So, a little bit about him.

Timothy Ware was born in Bath, England.

He was educated at Westminster School, to which you won a scholarship, and Mordling College,

Oxford, where he took a double first in classics, as well as reading theology. Having been

raised Anglican, at the age of 24, he embraced the Orthodox Christian faith, traveling

subsequently throughout Greece, spending a great deal of time at the Monastery of St. John

the Theologian at Pactmos. He also frequented other major

centres of Orthodoxy, such as Jerusalem and Mount Athos. In 1966, he was ordained to the

priesthood and was tonsured as a monk, receiving the name Callistos. In the same year, he became a lecturer
