When I started this project, one of my goals was to get a hold of some reliable DNA testing

and figure out once and for all whether or not Lisa in Ohio was actually Alexis. Well, I did that, and the results were a

disappointment. Another goal, which both my reporting partner, Ashley Lutheran and I, have been

working toward on and off for years, was to get access to the Milwaukee police files on Alexis's case.

We've done that too.

But eventually, the excitement that the police had actually agreed to hand over the files

started to wear off.

There are almost 4,000 pages of reports, enough to fill two file cabinets.

The police have been releasing a couple hundred or so at a time, and Ashley and I have been going through them for months.

And while some of the police reports backed up what I already knew, some made me seriously question a whole lot of things I thought were true.

As I've shared with you in earlier episodes, the police had two leading theories about what

happened to Alexis. One was that her stepfather, Laurent Bourgeois, had cheated his drug suppliers and they snatched Alexis, either for revenge or as collateral.
