The chain of events that led to James Brasier's bloody beating began when the police stopped

his father, Odell, for weaving on Dawson's Main Street that Sunday afternoon, April 20,

1958.

Most of the Brasier family, James, his wife and children, his father, and other relatives

attended not just one church that day, but two.

Now the first service was at I Hope Baptist Church.

And after that, the Brasier family drove out to the town of Sasser for services at Mount
